Eat your banana peels !

With New Year's coming up, most have New Year's resolutions that have something to do with healthy eating. Would you add eating banana peals to your list? According to nutritionists, there are benefits to eating banana peels.

The peel is packed with vitamin B6 and B12, magnesium, potassium, fiber, and protein. As we know, these vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients, meaning that our bodies can not produce them on their own and are needed in order for us to function properly.

Not sold yet?  The antioxidants from the peel can help you sleep better at night due to the high amount of an amino acid called tryptophan. This amino acid helps stimulate the production of niacin. Niacin is the precursor to the neurotransmitter, serotonin.

Of course, you don't need to eat the peel raw. It is recommended to wash the peel to avoid consuming pesticide residue and to cook the it in order to soften it. You can then blend it and add it to your favorite recipes.

However, there are other ways to get these essential nutrients. But hey, maybe you want to try something new to start off a new decade.
